The first of several 2025 events, Sustainserv is partnering with Trellis Group on a Jan. 21st webcast that will feature two of the architects of the new EU reporting directives
Sustainserv today announced a series of upcoming U.S.-based events and education opportunities on the European Union sustainability disclosure requirements. The first of these events is a webcast with Trellis Group (formerly GreenBiz) entitled “CSRD in Action: Latest Insights, Lessons, and Policy Development.” Taking place on Tuesday, January 21st at 11 a.m. ET, the interactive session will allow participants to interact with two of the experts who established the foundational concepts of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
“With the ESG and reporting landscape continuing to evolve in 2025 and beyond, we are committed to serving as a resource to companies to help them navigate new regulations. For example, this upcoming webcast offers a unique opportunity for companies to gain actionable insights from the very experts who helped shape the foundations of the CSRD,” says Dr. Matthew Gardner, Managing Partner at Sustainserv. “As these regulations become integral to global business strategies, understanding and leveraging these frameworks is no longer optional – it is essential for driving sustainable growth and innovation. We are thrilled to partner with Trellis Group to bring insight and expertise to a wide set of participants.”
As sustainability reporting requirements expand, this webcast will offer attendees practical guidance and direct access to the pioneers behind these critical EU sustainability standards and regulations. Theresa Lieb, VP of Nature and Europe of Trellis Group will moderate the event. The webcast will also feature Prof. Dr. Alexander Bassen and Prof. Dr. Kerstin Lopatta, who are the key architects and authors behind the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), which laid the groundwork for CSRD.
CSRD and ESRS have strict sustainability disclosure requirements for compliance. For example, the ESRS mandates that companies adopt a “double materiality” perspective, requiring companies to report their impacts on people and the environment and how social and environmental issues create financial risks and opportunities for the company. As many companies and organizations participate in global supply chains, they must come up to speed quickly on the implications of these rules and take the first steps to come into compliance.
Last year, Sustainserv launched an in-depth workshop and certification program featuring Prof. Dr. Bassen and Prof. Dr. Lopatta. Since the launch of this program, Sustainserv has conducted successful workshops in Germany and Switzerland. In addition, the consultancy recently introduced the Sustainserv Disclosure Analyzer (SDA), which is a free online tool that companies can use to determine which disclosures they are obligated to make under the CSRD. The upcoming webcast marks the first of a series of events and workshops that Sustainserv has engaged in that are designed for U.S. companies and participants. In February 2025, Dr. Gardner will be speaking on a panel on this topic (entitled “Getting Up to Speed on CSRD”) during the upcoming GreenBiz 25 conference.
