Closing the ESG Cycle Strong – Landis+Gyr Sustainability-Report FY 2024

The Challenge

As a capital market-oriented company with approximately 6,300 employees and USD 1.7 billion in annual turnover, Landis+Gyr was required to comply with Switzerland’s new non-financial reporting obligations (Swiss Code of Obligations Art. 964) regarding non-financial reporting for the financial year 2024. At the same time, the company was approaching the end of a three-year ESG strategy cycle (2022–2024) and preparing for the retirement of its long-standing sustainability reporting specialist at the end of 2024.

The 2024 reporting cycle presented several demands:

  • Continued compliance with GRI Standards and the Swiss Code of Obligations (CO)
  • Inclusion of a climate report aligned with the ‘Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures’ (TCFD)
  • External limited assurance covering both quantitative data and management approaches
  • A compelling wrap-up of the company’s ESG performance across the full three-year cycle

About Landis+ Gyr

Landis+Gyr is a global leader in integrated energy management solutions. The company delivers powerful analytics for smart grid and infrastructure optimization by measuring and analyzing energy use – helping utilities and end-users reduce consumption and carbon emissions. Its portfolio of software, services, and intelligent sensor technologies is a key enabler in the global energy transition. In FY 2024 alone, Landis+Gyr’s products helped its clients avoid over 9 million tons of CO₂ emissions.

Goal

The goals for the Sustainability Report FY 2024 were:

  • Full alignment with GRI Standards
  • Compliance with Swiss CO, including a TCFD-based climate section
  • Preparation for a limited external assurance process including data checks as well as management approaches
  • Clear and accessible reflection of the progress and impact of Landis+Gyr’s 2022–2024 ESG cycle
  • Optimized structure, clarity and continuity, ensuring a smooth handover to the new internal team

Our Approach

Sustainserv provided Landis+Gyr comprehensive support across all reporting phases:

  • Handover
We ensured a seamless knowledge transfer from the retiring sustainability reporting specialist to the broader sustainability team. Hence, securing internal continuity.
  • Concept Optimization
The reporting concept was refined with a focus on content clarity and standardization across chapters. The concept emphasized accessible structuring by topic and ESG impact.
  • Information Gathering & Gap Identification
Existing content was transferred into the updated framework. This step also served to uncover gaps and collect new measures and performance data from FY 2024.
  • Report Development & Finalization
Sustainserv revised and completed the report content, ensuring accurate and structured alignment with the GRI Standards. We also supported the integration and development of TCFD-related disclosures and prepared the required GRI content index and Swiss CO reference table.

Results

  • Focus and consolidation of strategic foundations
Landis+Gyr’s 2024 Sustainability Report features a more focused and streamlined presentation of its sustainability strategy. Key elements such as stakeholder engagement, strategic commitments, targets, and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are now clearly consolidated in concise, well-structured tables, enhancing readability and strategic transparency.
  • Enhanced structure and readability
The report’s data section is more consistent, and ESG highlights from the full strategy cycle are presented clearly at the beginning of each section.
  • Strenghtened climate reporting
The disclosure of climate-related risks and opportunities has been further aligned with recognized best practices. It is now well structured, making relevant information easier to navigate, more transparent, and accessible to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Seamless team transition
Despite the departure of the internal sustainability reporting specialist during the reporting season, the process ran smoothly, thanks to early preparation and integrated external support.

“With the conclusion of our ESG strategy cycle and upcoming regulatory shifts, it was critical to deliver a clear, compliant, and forward-looking report. Sustainserv helped us structure the process and tell a compelling story behind the data.”
