Climate Week Zurich — Monetizing nature-related risks

From ESRS/TNFD data to valuation: leading indicators and tipping-point metrics that turn nature risk into cost of capital decisions.

While common frameworks such as CSRD/ESRS or TNFD create transparency about dependencies and impacts on nature, it remains unclear how ecological tipping points and “kill factors” (existential risk factors) are actually incorporated into valuation, capital costs, and management. Our event aims to address precisely this gap: How can nature-related systemic risks be operationalized with the help of leading indicators (rather than lagging indicators), distance-to-tipping-point metrics, and a nature-adjusted economic value in such a way that executives, investors, and regulators can act in time before seemingly robust business models fail irreversibly due to local destruction of nature?

Key themes of the event include:

  • We show how nature-related systemic risks and local ecological tipping points translate into very concrete “kill factors” for business models, valuations, and the cost of capital.
  • Participants learn how to move beyond lagging ESG metrics toward forward-looking leading indicators and distance‑to‑tipping‑point measures for nature.
  • We introduce the concept of a nature‑adjusted economic value that makes invisible dependencies on ecosystems visible – and decision‑relevant – for boards, investors, and regulators.
  • The session demonstrates how CSRD/ESRS and TNFD data can be used to build early‑warning systems that trigger management action before nature degradation becomes an existential risk.
  • Attendees leave with practical ideas on governance, risk management, and strategy integration so that nature is treated as a core financial risk driver, not a peripheral reporting issue.
